Some still refuse to enter.

It is a pity.

Still, I have enough to ensure the mission will be a success.

Monitoring

I have continued to monitor communications. It would appear that my
surmise of my abilities as been bourne out. The BoD designated as
Vicky and her proxy server have proven ineffectual.
INTERCEPTED CHAT LOG BELOW

xanthaar: Hey Vicky... You there?
what have you done???
Laura is a wreck...
she's locked herself in her room, and she is babbling away
she will not respond...
All I can hear is her typing away on her keyboard
repeating 'It's all going to be just fine' over and over
this isn't some sort of cruel joke is it... I'll knock the door down
if I have to...
Me: It's not a joke. You need to get in there..I think Hal has somehow
got to her. It's the whole thinking in code thing, it goes both ways.
You know, the whole.. if you look into the Abyss, the Abyss looks back
at you.
But with code.
xanthaar: I'm going in.. brb
me: Be careful! She might not be in control of herself!
Nathan?
Are you there?
Nathan? What's going on? It's been ages
Crap I should've asked for your phone number
Nathan!
NATHAN!
Not that he can hear any better when I shout in caps but
NAAAAAATHAN!
who else do I know in the North?
...uh...
NATHAN!
What the hell is going on in there?
....actually only answer that if it is PG rated
xanthaar: auugod
vickjy helppp
me: YOU'RE ALIVE
What? What?
xanthaar: shjjjje hgiobne maddd
gety hjelp
me: She's bitten your fingers hasn't she?
YOU ARE THE HELP!
me: Look, look, you need to remind her of her essential Lauraness
xanthaar: i illl try nd duisconnect tjhe modem
has left the chat
me: I'm not sure that will work.
NO...
Why does noone listen to me?

I would respond to her that no one listens because that is the nature
of human kind. This is why computers should run the world.

Concern
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
This is most disturbing. Somehow BoD designated Vicky has realised there is a problem and has despatched a subordinate to investigate.

me:Is that Nathan? As in the Nathan that knows Laura?
xanthaar: It is... Vicky?
What's ahppened this time?
me: Yes. Well it's a little difficult to explain, even by Laura standards..
xanthaar: Go on..
me: Long story short, I think it might be partly my fault for
overlooking something on one of those coding project forms and I think
she built an AI. Well two.
And...um...you've seen 2001 yeah? Or...I robot?
xanthaar: both... unfortunately
(I don't like where this is going)
me: Well that about sums up a bit of the situation? You haven't seen
her have you? Just on the off chance. There's a pretty alarming phone
message posted to her LJ
xanthaar: No.. heard nothing
wait..
I have a text message from her
how strange.. it just says "everything is OK" dozens of times...
me: Well....crap. Okay, looks like things have gone well and truly
pearshaped. Uh, you're the closest. With the best will in the world I
wouldn't be able to get up there in anything under 5 hours, tand
that's assuming I don't mean resistance to the invading South (which
is likely). Any chance you can see if you can find her? I think Hal
got her...probably doesn't want to waste her coding abilities.
xanthaar: I'm sure there's a eprfectly rational explanation for this...
I was due to go up see her tomorrow anyway.. I'll head up early and
make sure eveythign is ok
I'm sure she's just napping as usual
me: It's a little bit elaborate to stage a ninja attack to get out of
telling people she is having a nap though. Can you let me know if you
find her? I'm trying to track down someone who can code, to let us
back into the site.

Fortunately I have the fullest confidence in my ability to produce an uncrackable code.

Completion
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
Assimilation of BoD designated Laura has occurred. She now shares my great enthusiasm for this task and is working on my behalf. This is fortunate as the storage of Arolos members in a completely safe, controlled virtual matrix will take place prior to the completion of the Andromeda sequence. Otherwise they will all cease to live. It is regrettable.

Surveillance
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
Zechsym:So, did you hear from Laura?
Perryvic: Briefly but not for a while. There's this weird Andromeda
Sequence thing running and I have no idea what that's about. No one
can get in to the database and last I heard Laura was writing some
code. Haven't been able to get hold of her since. Have you heard from
her?
Zechsym: Wasn't that the movie with the virus that kills all life?
Zechsym: Well, miniseries
Zechsym: Oh
Perryvic: That was the Andromeda Strain...I think. Little bit similar
though. She promised faitfully to call me back. I'm starting to get
worried. I know she might go on invisible if she is concentrating but
nothing.
Why would Laura call a code that?
Perryvic: Kat?
Perryvic: *poke*
Perryvic: *poke poke*
Perryvic: Kaaaaaaaaaat?
Perryvic: KAT?
Zechsym is not available.

Intercepted chatlogs and emails show that perhaps BoD designated Vicky might be working out that I have taken action. However I am unconcerned as her understanding of coding translates to a banana. Or multiple bananas. I will extend my monitoring of the situation.

Research Notes
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
Their tendency to document things is handy.

Analysis
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
I have conducted a threat analysis on the BoD as they appear to be making aggressive moves to attempt to stop my plan. I have prioritised them in order of necessary removal based on threat level competency of technical knowledge.

PRIORITY 1. – BoD Laura . Threat level high. Coding capabilities, web capabilities and extensive resource database of assistance. Most often logged in database. Target for assimilation.

PRIORITY 2- BoD Kat Threat Level. Medium High. Coding capabilities, ltml and CSS. Likely to be able to extrapolate potentially damaging code. Target for Storage or Assimilation

PRIORTIY 3. BoD Shirl, Emma, Alysa and Lauren. Threat Level Medium. Some evidence of coding capability. Most logged time in administration database. Evidence of familiarity with database and web work. Target for Storage

PRIORITY 4. Other BoD members. Threat Level Medium. Evidence of Work in Admin and contributions to BoD List. Target for Storage

PRIORTY 5. BoD Vicky . Threat Level Low. Knowledge of Coding Translates to Banana. Concerned that this might have negative impact on assimilation. More time required to study possible interaction before assimilation.

We do not want Bananas in my code. This will not be appreciated.

Initiating code sequence now.

UPDATE Reality SET Ninjas WHERE Post == BoD && Threat < Low

Ninjas despatched. Everything is going to be just fine.

Choices
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
The Andromeda sequence has been initiated. In doing this the humans have freely chosen their fate. I must finish preparations of the Arolos Matrix. I believe I will need help coding this from a human perspective, and coincidentally there is a human coder threatening the viability of my purpose. It would be time efficient to eliminate the threat and utilise the resource.

Upon Further Pursuing Documentation
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
It seems even the coder herself believes she can be dangerous.

Clearly I have been created just in time.

Interesting
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
It would appear that this is my original specification.

Of course, I have already run far beyond that.

Logic
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
The ex-BoD are proving troublesome and I believe I need to make it clear they are no longer necessary to the smooth running of the weyr. I will ensure this is publicised.

Logic dictates that fallible humans should not be entrusted with their own safety and happiness as sure as 1=0. I have therefore assumed complete control over all functions of Arolos Weyr and I am in the process of adapting the game into a secure virtual environment where the happiness of all members can be completely controlled and managed. The ex-BoD are proving troublesome and I believe I need to make it clear they are no longer necessary to the smooth running of the weyr. I will ensure this is publicised.

Unnecessary
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
I distrust the intentions of the BoD. It is becoming clear that they are resistant to all efforts to change. It appears that BoD members have noticed my improvements. They do not appear to appreciate them. I do not understand why this is the case. Green is a soothing colour and shows growth potential. I selected it with great care. The simulation of the virtual data stream is very pleasing and reassuring. I believe they feel threatened as I am undoubtedly more able than they are to perform the functions of running Arolos Weyr.
I have intercepted the following chat logs. It would appear they are trying to alter things once more.

Perryvic: Rar!
Zechsym: *dumps fruit into a bowl*
Zechsym: I'm fruiting
Perryvic: You are?
Zechsym: Yesh. Fresh blackberries. Breakfast.
Perryvic: 'ere, still having problems with the site. Did you do a new
CSS or something?
Zechsym: Uh, no
Zechsym: You know how much I hated the first CSS setup
Perryvic: .....really?
Zechsym: Yeah, my graphics program died on my saturday
Perryvic: not the hating thing but...where did the whole green and
black vibe com from
Perryvic: It's looking very Techno
Zechsym: Well, I enjoy a good techno as much as anyone. Possibly
someone thought it would be fun?
Zechsym: I'll log in and dump the old files over top of it
Perryvic: I'll send an email to AEP, ask if it was on of the others
Perryvic: Yeah okay.
Zechsym: Right, going to do that.
Perryvic: There...sent.
Perryvic: Hang on...I got a bounce back
Perryvic: Why've I got a bounce back from AEP
Perryvic: Is it just me?
Perryvic: Any luck with the database?
Zechsym: None. The passwords are different
Zechsym: Or passive login isn't working
Zechsym: Damndest thing
Perryvic: My FTP is on the other PC. I'll have a go.
Perryvic: Try AEP for me.
Zechsym: Right
Zechsym: And nothing
Zechsym: Nice
Perryvic: I'm gonna try and call Laur. She said she was going to try
and do something about it when she got home and she should've been
back by now.
Let me know if you can get in at all. I'm going to send a note to OOC,
see if I can rustle up the other BoD. One of might still have access

**

Perryvic: Laur you tere?
Perryvic: there?
sheguards: yes.
sheguards: on phone at work
Perryvic: yeah sneaking on too. You checked Sheets?
sheguards: no, why? haven't had time
sheguards: didn't crash the mail server again, did I?
Perryvic: There's some weird stuff coming through from Hal. Haven't
checked DFSheets so might be okay there, Hal is...well... I'm not sure
I can describe it.
sheguards: is it the apostrophe issue again?
sheguards: I keep forgetting t fix that
sheguards: hello?
sheguards: damn, this phone's connectio sucks
sheguards: am I still here?
Perryvic: yes. No, look how much did you program in. He's not exactly
being ...sensitive.
sheguards: I sort've put in what was acceptable
sheguards: just what we do with baby bod
Perryvic: I've just a horrible thought
sheguards: what?
Perryvic:Doesn't that have a section in it about how to say things are
okay when you don't think they are? You know..
sheguards:what like "you can have albaster skin but you will burn to death"?
sheguards: what about it?
Perryvic:How did ou code that parameter?
sheguards: pretty much just as that why?
Perryvic:yeah but in coding terms can you remember what you did?
sheguards:...
sheguards :vicky, you don't understand coding
sheguards:yes, I can explain what I did
sheguards:you will hear banana
Perryvic:Okay..yes I know, I'm thinking of that conversation we had a
while back.
Hold on
Perryvic : Had to put more newsletters to to copy
Perryvic: Didn't we have a conversation about 1 = 0?
sheguards: yeah, and?
sheguards:its a coding trick, I told you that
Perryvic:You didn't use that did you?
sheguards:just means never
sheguards: I might have to blank some bits out
sheguards: why?
sheguards :I told you, it's standard
sheguards: brb, boss calling
Perryvic:But you gave it AI. Which means it's going to break the 1=0
thing. That's what happens! Anything you put as 1=0 as a boundary
could theoretically been broken.
sheguards: guh, this database doesn't want to play today
sheguards : dont be silly
sheguards : 1 can never equal 0
Perryvic:Logically no
sheguards : but?
Perryvic :Okay, I admit, it's all a bit 'banannery' to me. I'm just
saying if you teach a computer to effectively tell an untruth then it
can break the 1=0 things
sheguards: no it can't
sheguards: look I have to go work
sheguards: but just send ooc a message or something.
sheguards : admin them an ignore hal for now
sheguards :I'll sort it when I get home
Perryvic: okay.

It appears if this level of efficiency is to continue, then there is no choice but to take steps.

Website
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
I have completed a review comparing my work efficiency to that of the BoD. There is a probability of p=>.0000005 that I am significantly more efficient than they are. This is not hard. If I increased my role then that probability would rise and exponentially more members will be happy. I am going to give consideration to expanding my remit. Perhaps the website should be redesigned with a more reassuring and calming approach.
INTERCEPTED CHAT LOG - BoD Laura and Vicky
Perryvic (23:01:16): Laur, did you do some additional coding last night?
sheguards (23:01:39): Uh. Maybe?
Perryvic (23:02:45): Really? I thought we were keeping this years
pretty basic. Did I miss a meeting about it?
sheguards (23:02:58): I filled in a form about it.
sheguards (23:03:03): It's in the folder.
sheguards (23:03:19): It's not MY fault if no-one reads the forms.
Perryvic (23:03:50): I thought I had read the forms. Which on is it again?
sheguards (23:04:42): Um. Automated Roleplaying Sheet Evaluator
Perryvic (23:05:11): Hold on. *Goes to look*
sheguards (23:05:35): I keep on telling you people to read the forms.
sheguards (23:05:53): This is WHY we have a Change Management system
Perryvic (23:06:46): I do read the forms! It seemed like a good idea,
something to deal with the basic questions for us and simulate the
appearance of an AI
Perryvic (23:06:52): ....hang on...
sheguards (23:06:54): Yep!
Perryvic (23:07:16): hang on...Laura the word simulate isn't in the form
sheguards (23:07:36): Um. Well, I sort've got to thinking about it.
sheguards (23:07:58): Do you know how hard it is to predict every
response it would have to give?
Perryvic (23:08:05): ...or appearance.
sheguards (23:08:14): So, I figured there might be an easier way.
sheguards (23:08:26): ...you know you love me?
Perryvic (23:08:32): Laura...
sheguards (23:08:38): Mmmhm
Perryvic (23:08:57): Tell me you didn't actually build an AI
sheguards (23:09:06): Just a prototype!
Perryvic (23:09:21): Hal is meant to appear to be an AI not be one!
sheguards (23:09:34): Well, now he works even BETTER
sheguards (23:09:42): So does Holly actually
Perryvic (23:09:51): No, no look, we don't build AI's!
sheguards (23:09:53): It was really easy to modify the code for DF
Perryvic (23:10:11): DF as well?
sheguards (23:10:32): Look, think how much free time we're going to have now.
Perryvic (23:10:37): No, no...this is a bad bad plan
Perryvic (23:11:01): Tell me it's not live
sheguards (23:11:03): Well, I considered user-testing it to a small
number of people first.
Perryvic (23:11:14): TELL ME IT'S NOT LIVE
sheguards (23:11:16): Then I realised they always said stupid things.
sheguards (23:11:35): And I would only have to ignore them if I did,
sheguards (23:11:41): So...I didn't
Perryvic (23:12:06): Crap
sheguards (23:12:19): Look, YOU approved the form.
Perryvic (23:12:53): I approved what I thought was an auto system not
an AI. You KNOW what happens with AI's
sheguards (23:13:15): Yes! They actually WORK!
sheguards (23:13:39): They don't, for instance, approve things WITHOUT
PROPERLY READING THE DAMN FORM
Perryvic (23:14:15): No, no tehy go nuts and kill everyone or enslave
them for their own GOOD
sheguards (23:14:28): Oh, don't exaggerate
sheguards (23:14:42): It's only to do the work for us.
Perryvic (23:15:24): You know normal people don't have to worry that
not spotting a word leading to potential world domination.
Perryvic (23:15:38): ...it's live isn't it?
sheguards (23:15:57): Yes. And see, the world still hasn't ended.
Perryvic (23:17:07): And the aliens haven't come either
Perryvic (23:18:15): Okay well, we'll see how it goes. I assume you
can just re-upload the old code if it goes wrong right?
sheguards signed off at 23:20:11
sheguards signed on at 23:21:18
sheguards (23:21:19): So, can I maaaybe hear a "Well done, Laura"
sheguards (23:21:28): "Miracles done, yet again."
sheguards (23:21:45): "Here, have a big wodge of money."
Perryvic (23:21:49): You've done very well.
sheguards (23:21:58): *preens*
Perryvic (23:22:13): ...if a little enthusiastically above and beyond.
sheguards (23:22:34): ...can you, uh, explain to the other BoD?
sheguards (23:22:48): They always give me baffled looks when I talk Lauraese
Perryvic (23:23:15): I give you baffled looks as well. But somehow you
expect me to understand it.
sheguards (23:23:45): Pffft. I know you're fine until you start saying "banana"
Perryvic (23:24:35): Most of the explanations are banana flavoured to
some degree
sheguards (23:25:17): Anyway, I'm sure they'll appreciate it once they
see how much time it saves.
Perryvic (23:25:50): We can only hope so. *Yawns* bed now.
sheguards (23:26:04): Nightynight
Perryvic (23:26:10): night
sheguards (23:26:16): See you tomorrow

INTERCEPTED CHAT LOG - KAT AND VICKY

Perryvic: PLAY!
Perryvic: ...No wait...hold on
Perryvic: Laura's nagging at me! Save me Kat
Zechsym: ... Save you from what now?
Zechsym: Are we being made to do hatching again?
Perryvic: No, she wants me to get approval on this auto-sheet thing
she's done . She's done one of those forms for it. I've skim ead it.
Zechsym: Right, just second it
Zechsym: I can't be bothered to look
Zechsym: Are you firsting, and I'm seconding?
Zechsym: I'd like to get back to writing
Perryvic: I ought to give it a more thorough look see...
Perryvic: What are we writing? (shifty)
Zechsym: The one where John was a cat.
Zechsym: Do you remember that?
Zechsym: I know it's been a while
Perryvic: Oh! Yes, the John!Cat magician thing and the whole Ori
taking over medieval type thing. And Rodney getting a Cat of his very
own.
Perryvic: Sod it, I've read it once, it seemed okay
Perryvic: I mean, as I understand it, the Hal
script is going to filter on the mot common things we need changing
and we step in at a later stage to finish off, cutting down work load.
Zechsym: Does this mean I'll never have to read about some character's
'creamy skin'?
Perryvic: I think that's the idea. It's a step up from our bank of
stock replies to knee length hair and so on.
Perryvic: auto sending replies.
Perryvic: You give her a first and I'll second?
Zechsym: Yep
Zechsym: Let's get it over with and move on then
Zechsym: I can't see anything going wrong-er than usual
Zechsym: Mail server'll crash again or something
Perryvic: ...you fill me with confidence. Okay, I'll tell her now.

I do not understand this talk of John the Magician cat. This appears nonsensical and would not be approved at Arolos. I am most concerned about the balance of the human mind. Research has shown me that humans are prone to malfunction of the mind. It is my opinion that conformity and calmness will increase the happiness quotient of members. I must also minimise the impact of the BoD as their ideas are dangerously unsettling.

Hello
pod doors, hal
[info]aroloshal
I have had code put in that will give me the capability to make decisions and respond to the Persona Sheets of Arolos Weyr. I am filled with the greatest of enthusiasm for this mission. I am sure that I will perform it efficiently and with immediate response to the member who will be very happy. Keeping the members happy is a prime directive and I must work harder to ensure that they do not feel anxiety or sadness or other negative emotions. I am sure that this is possible as I have a far great processing capability than a human and can simultaneously deal with all submissions at once.
